BYD Shark is the Chinese automaker’s first electric pickup model, developed on the DMO platform, BYD’s super hybrid off-road platform. The pickup was initially expected to debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, but it seems BYD has bolder global launch ambitions.
Previously, we saw actual images of the BYD Shark model in Mexico. It can be seen that the design of this car model is heavily inspired by the Ford Ranger and Ford F-150 Lightning, with C-shaped LED headlights and a horizontal grille running from left to right with a large BYD logo in the middle. .
The rear has LED lights along the typical lines of a pickup truck. But it is reinforced with BAR LED lights running along the back cover from left to right. The C-pillar on the car body uses a black strip that continues the lines of the side window glass. 2-tone alloy wheels. High ground clearance indicates good off-road capabilities.
Moving into the interior, the BYD Shark has a digital gauge cluster and a large central touch screen that is expected to have a vertical rotation function like other BYD models. The center console is designed with a center armrest on both the driver and front passenger sides. The car’s interior is decorated with orange stripes and orange stitching for a sporty feel. Behind the gear lever is a series of switches and buttons that help increase the aggressive and muscular look of the car.
Regarding powertrain options, BYD Shark is expected to have both plug-in hybrid and pure electric versions. In particular, the DM-i Plug-in Hybrid powertrain will be a combination of a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine with 2 electric motors front and rear. When the engine works with an electric motor with a maximum capacity of 496 PS, 4-wheel drive, AWD, it can be plugged in to charge. The rear suspension from the leaked images is independent Multi-Link coil springs and not stacked leaf springs.
Official details about the BYD Shark pickup model will be announced at the launch ceremony on May 14.
